For just one weekend a year, a Scottish celebration of music, dance, athleticism and poetry emerges from the mountain mists of Enumclaw. It’s no trick of the light — the music of the pipes and drums, the joy of Highland dancing, the power of Scottish athletics and the sharing of clan history are returning to the PNW with the Scottish Highland Games & Clan Gathering.
Dedicated to preserving Scottish identity through the arts, the Seattle Scottish Highland Games Association has been bringing Scottish culture to the Pacific Northwest since 1947, hosting the 6th oldest continuous Scottish Highland Games in the U.S.
The 79th annual celebration will include a variety of activities for everyone. Witness iconically Scottish feats of strength during the North American Scottish Athletics Championship (think: open stone toss, sheaf toss, hammer toss and, of course, caber toss). Catch the US West Coast Drum Corps Championship, hear the colorful pipe bands, watch Highland dancers earn worldwide renown and enjoy the sights and sounds of four stages jam-packed with Celtic music.
“It was one of the most fun events we’ve done this summer and we’re looking forward to coming back next year,” say 2025 visitors Bob and Mary Alice Tennant.
Still keen for more Scottish culture? Visitors can sample a wide variety of Scottish food and drink, stroll through clan tents to delve into their Scottish ancestry or wend their way through the vendors selling goods imported from the British Isles.
Curious about what you might see and hear when the games are underway? Enjoy a Friday night preview starting at 5 p.m., which is free and open to the public. The weekend-long event is the perfect opportunity to dust off your kilt, roll out your tartan and head to Enumclaw for a vibrant celebration of culture and community.
