Though even our very own sportswriter Matt Calkins just this week referred to this year’s Seattle Mariners as “mid,” they’re still sitting atop the AL West division thanks to a bizarre round robin happening amongst our division foes. (And the A’s got good again? Who saw that coming?)
Meanwhile, Cal Raleigh is back, the baby faces (Canzone, Young, Emerson) are truly shining and left fielder Randy Arozarena joined center fielder Julio Rodríguez in the first round of All-Star Game voting. There’s still an entire half-season to go, so show up to T-Mobile Park, get your entrée and liquid of choice and enjoy a summer under the rolling roof.
Plus, there’s all the goodies you can get either through free giveaways or special ticket offers. BEHOLD! Up first, the free things. The Cal Raleigh POP! Collectible will still be on offer for the first 10,000 fans at the July 2 game against the Los Angeles Angels. On Independence Day, be early in line for a Patriotic Bucket Hat, sponsored by Coca-Cola, as we face the Toronto Blue Jays, aka. the team that booted us from our World Series chance (*shakes fist at Canada*). Interleague play is happening against the San Francisco giants on July 19, where you can get your hands on a 2000s-era pin. And on July 20 as we face off against the Cincinnati Reds, get yourself a Muckleshoot Casino-sponsored Mariners crossbody bag, why not.
Meanwhile, purchase a special ticket ahead of time for the July 2 game against the Angels if you’d like either a “House of the Dragon”or a “Rizzsmas in July” T-shirt (a celebration of our radio play-by-play announcer in his final season for the team). How about a skateboard deck for the July 19 Giants game or an exclusive Bruce Lee jersey for the July 20 game against the Reds? Again, check out the website. And, obviously, it’s not summer baseball without aloha shirts. Yes, there’s the Margaritaville Night shirt as the M’s take on the Minnesota Twins on July 31, but the big get will be on July 22 against the Reds, where you’ll receive a Salmon Run Day piece of clothing that’ll delight anybody in the know, and baffle anybody who is, like, “Who the heck is Humpy?” Humpy the Salmon is a friend to all, that’s who the heck he is!
