It’s time to Boom Boom Clap, baybeee!!

While the Mariners have disappointed us once again—sigh—fall doesn’t have to be a time of sadness for Seattle sports fans. The Major League Soccer (MLS) playoffs are upon us, with the potential for some exciting, wet nights at Lumen Field. Earlier this year, the Sounders looked in rough shape, but the return of Cristian Roldan and a re-energized team has the Sounders back in the playoffs and peaking at just the right time.

If you haven’t attended a Sounders playoff game—1) you should—and 2) they rock. Walking down to the stadium in the dark, when you can see your breath and it’s dumping rain, just hits different. Naturally, the intensity on the field is taken up another level (these are playoff games, after all), but so too is the energy in the stands. The whole stadium buzzes with an electric energy. (If you have 15 minutes, watch this short documentary from COPA90, which gives an idea of what attending a Sounders playoff game is like.)

The Sounders will welcome familiar playoff foe FC Dallas to Lumen Field on Monday, October 30th. This is the first year of MLS’ new playoff format of a best-of-three home-away-home series for round one. If one team wins both of the first two games (on Monday, October 30th and Saturday, November 4th), then the third (on Friday, November 10th) won’t be played. However, if each team takes one of the first two games, the series will return to Lumen Field on November 10th for the rubber match.
