Pride Month isn’t until June, but there’s no reason we can’t be proud every got-dang day of the year. Especially since professional hockey’s regular season ends in April. So why not do it when it’s cold outside and we could really use the warm embrace of our fellow LGBTQIA+ citizens and all they stand for? And we can catch a hockey game against the New Jersey Devils in the process, why not.
This Pride Night is part of the Kraken’s Common Thread series, which pairs local artists with themed game nights throughout the season. Seattle illustrator Kelly Björk brings her signature style to this year’s designs, creating a disco ball logo that captures the spirit of inclusivity and joy. She says her work aims to create a visual world of tenderness and acceptance—something we could all use more of during these dark winter months.
At the very least, I absolutely want a puck emblazoned with Björk’s disco ball logo to go along with the pride tape I’ll wrap around my hockey stick.
Pro tips:
🚇 Take the Monorail from Westlake Center for the easiest arena access
🎨 Grab the limited edition Pride Night puck with Björk’s design
🍽️ Hit up Uptown Hop Shop nearby for pre-game food and drinks
🌈 Pride tape will be available at team stores
And while theme nights don’t technically have anything to do with the visiting team, I’d be remiss not to mention that New Jersey’s devilishly handsome mascot would fit right in during the post-game scene on Capitol Hill. Just saying, Buoy might want to show them around.
