There’s no film festival in the city quite like HUMP! Mostly because it’s all amateur porn made by horny, creative people for horny, creative people. Started in 2005 by The Stranger‘s sex columnist Dan Savage, HUMP! blew up over the past nearly two decades, with people from around the world submitting their raunchy short films featuring all sorts of kinks, genders, body types, and fantasies for audiences in Seattle and beyond.
For those of you feeling trepidatious about watching all manners of sex in a room full of strangers and acquaintances—I totally get it! (I was on the jury for HUMP! for three years when I worked at The Stranger, so I had to watch all of these skin flicks with my coworkers.) But it’s a genuinely thrilling experience. You’ll wince, gasp, and probably get a little turned on, and the team behind the fest makes the screening a safe space. No phone usage of any kind is allowed, and neither is any inappropriate touching.
The audience gets to vote for their favorite films in four categories: Best Sex, Best Kink, Best Humor, and Best in Show. Things are a little different this year because this month’s lineup is the first of two coming. Dan Savage hosts the first week, with noted Seattle drag diva Betty Wetter taking over hosting duties for the rest of the run. Bring your Valentine and leave inspired.
