MCingDJingBreakdancingGraffitiKnowledge. There’s 50 years of music, lyrics, beats, and fashion wrapped up in those five core elements.

That’s right, hip-hop hits the big 5-0 this summer but there’s no slowdown in sight. While Seattle is almost synonymous with rock and grunge, our lovely city’s history with hip-hop spans decades. Celebrate the five elements of the genre and discover Seattle’s contributions to the culture at Hip Hop 50 on August 12th at Waterfront Park. Peep performances from The Residency, B-Boy and B-Girl dance battles, a fashion show with performances by dance studio Kutt‘N’Up, a Legends Cypher, and a music tribute featuring Vitamin D and Roc Phizzle. Presented by Friends of Waterfront Seattle, 206 Zulu, Coolout Network, Dope Culture, On the Block, and KEXP, make sure to check back on Friends of Waterfront Seattle’s website for the full lineup of performances and activities.

Kick off the weekend and bring friends—old and new—and family for a day at the water’s edge on Pier 62’s floating dock or on Habitat Beach. Wherever you are, the waterfront will be bumpin’ all day.
