It feels like a fever dream: Portlandia stars Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen appearing at a music festival alongside Australian indie rock legend Courtney Barnett, Alabama stars Waxahatchee, and Brownstein’s quintessential riot grrrl band Sleater-frickin-Kinney. But it’s not a fever dream. It’s actually happening this Sunday at Marymoor Park for Barnett’s “Here and There Festival.”
This festival was born out of Barnett’s love for touring, seeing new places, and getting lost between nowhere towns or, as she liked to call it, “here and there” (a direct reference to her song “Scotty Says”). The festival has 14 stops all over the US running from August 8th-September 3rd. As a kid, Barnett would often dream up festival line-ups and make mix-tapes along with shirts. With this festival, she’s making a life-long dream come true and evolving as an artist.
And this lineup is so stacked! It’s kind of bonkers. Not only will you see local legends Sleater-Kinney rip up that Marymoor stage to shreds with hits like “Dig Me Out” and “I Want To Be Your Joey Ramone,” but that same day you can dance yr heart out to Waxahatchee’s melodic country folk pop album Saint Cloud. Canadian artist Leith Ross will give an exclusive performance only at the Redmond date.
Plus, Fred Armisen is playing?? Are you kidding? That’s so cool!! Do I sense a Portlandia reunion occurring on stage? Will the Marymoor Park Masses witness a beloved indie rock tv show come to life? I’ll be honest, there are some Portlandia skits I think of daily. Especially the B-52’s Box Set Sketch.
