No plans for the night before Valentine’s Day? May I interest you in the oeuvre of treasured local composer/lyricist/actor Justin Huertas, who has been livening up the Seattle arts scene for years with such musicals as ArtsWest’s The Last World Octopus Wrestling Champion and the Book-It adaptation of Howl’s Moving Castle

But what exactly is the show?

Heartsongs is a super intimate, bad-ass, one-night-only valentine of a concert,” Huertas told The Ticket. Cocreated with actress and best friend Kiki deLohr (one-third of Huertas’ Lizard Boy) and featuring “Seattle theatre superstars” Tyler Rogers (SPT’s This Bitter Earth) and Sarah Russell (Seattle Rep’s Lydia and the Troll), it’s “an evening of songs and stories for people who love Valentine’s Day and people who hate it—and there will be some surprises.”

“Kiki and I have been working in Seattle’s theatre scene for over a decade,” Huertas continued, describing her as having the voice of a literal rock siren, “and we’ve been best friends for even longer. And our favorite songs to sing together are songs about love—giddy crushes, rageful breakups, friendship, loss, we’ve got a song for every facet of love.”

Huertas promises unhinged joy emanating from the stage. And in the cozy Here-After space downstairs at the Crocodile, it’s something we could all use this winter.
