📍 Museum of Glass: 1801 Dock St, Tacoma
The Museum of Glass is the West Coast’s largest glass museum and studio. Not only can visitors see works by famed artists like Dale Chihuly and Preston Singletary, but they can also watch the glassblowing process and even take a workshop. The museum regularly hosts programs like Kids Design Glass, where little ones can submit a design for a glassblower to turn into a one-of-a-kind glass creation.
The annual Glass Fest Northwest is a chance to experience the museum in a new way. See live glassmaking demos, enjoy hands-on activities, food, and music, and, of course, check out numerous artist booths to take something home, like these adorable glass succulents by Suz O’Dell.
The festival is free, as is general admission to the museum. Make sure to check out current exhibits, like “20 Years of Kids Design Glass” and “A Two-Way Mirror: Double Consciousness in Contemporary Glass by Black Artists.” This exhibit, which ends in October, looks at the representation of Black people through the medium of glass.
Also don’t miss: The Hot Shop, where visitors can see live glassblowing, which will host Tlingit-visiting artist Raven Skyriver during Glass Fest.
