If you were the kind of kid who thrilled to “Beetlejuice” — or at least related hard to Lydia Deetz — this could be your perfect night out.
Want to see the Seattle Symphony bring Danny Elfman’s spine-tingling scores to life on stage? Snag your tickets soon, since this one might sell out. Elfman and Tim Burton’s 25-year creative partnership (one of the most famous in Hollywood today) comes alive in a concert that promises equal parts macabre whimsy and full-on cinematic spectacle.
While we can’t promise the ghost of Harry Belafonte, original sketches, storyboards and drawings will dance on the big screen while conductor Sarah Hicks and the orchestra turn the music up to eleven. Boy soprano Ethan Ibsen adds extra magic, making this a show for all ages (and all creatures of the night). It’s part of the symphony’s first season under the leadership of Xian Zhang as Music Director — the first woman and the first person of color to lead the esteemed orchestra.
From “The Nightmare Before Christmas” to “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” settle in for a two-hour rollercoaster through Elfman and Burton’s kooky, darkly delightful worlds. Expect eerie charm, unforgettable tunes and the occasional goosebump — or three.
