Ball culture combines self-expression with community for trans and queer people of color. And according to its liner notes, Beyoncé’s Renaissance album is an homage to her Uncle Johnny. “He was my godmother and the first person to expose me to a lot of the music and culture that serve as inspiration for this album,” she wrote.
Strike A Pose, a monthly “mini-ball series” held by Julian Lanvin, will pay homage to the Queen with looks inspired by Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour at the Club Renaissance Ball, held the night before Beyoncé comes to Seattle. If you haven’t got tickets to the show at Lumen Field, you’ve got two chances to win tickets here.
