There’s never a wrong time to road trip to Cannon Beach, but autumn is especially magical—and one of the city’s most beloved events just happens to be in September: the annual Cannon Beach Cottage Tour.

Through an interactive self-guided walking tour, the public can learn about Cannon Beach’s rich history by visiting all kinds of homes, ranging from modest cottages to dreamy beachfront properties. Volunteers and homeowners will be on hand to answer questions and share oral histories of the houses, offering a glimpse into life in Cannon Beach’s early days.

A map of the homes will be distributed on the day of the event, but Liz Scott, manager of Cannon Beach History Center & Museum, hints that one house in particular is likely to be a crowd favorite. “It’s celebrating its centennial and it’s right on the oceanfront, so it has a beautiful view of Haystack Rock,” she says, adding that the home has been in the family for decades and it still has nearly the exact same interior—like a hundred-year-old stove.

Although the home tour is the main attraction, the museum has lined up activities for the weekend. A new “Paint and Sip” workshop led by local artist Dmitri Swain, who has an affinity for painting houses, will have a morning and afternoon session on September 15th. Use watercolors to paint a cottage or coastal seascape while partaking in drinks and treats from Cannon Beach Bakery and Cannon Beach Chocolate Café.

Tickets for the home tour can be purchased in advance for $45 on Cannon Beach History Center & Museum’s website and for $50 on the day of the tour. Proceeds from the event will go directly to the museum, allowing it to remain open and free to the public.

The Cannon Beach History Center & Museum is dedicated to preserving the history of Cannon Beach and Arch Cape.
