If there’s one thing I know, moms love bonsai trees with all their twisty trunks, wispy flowers, and pensive nature.

Luckily, the Pacific Bonsai Museum in Federal Way is hosting BonsaiFEST! throughout Mother’s Day weekend. At this bonsai bonanza, there will be three bonsai exhibitions to explore. There’s the interactive and educational Small Talk: All the dirt on growing mini-but-mighty trees, which bridges the gap between a bonsai textbook and the real world. Then there’s also Skating the Edge: Exhibitions from Pacific Bonsai Museum’s First Ten Years, which celebrates a decade of the museum’s exhibition. And then the Puget Sound Bonsai Association is putting on both a Spring Show of their bonsai cultivations and a mame exhibition of the teensiest bonsai.

For those who prefer a more hands-on learning experience, the Pacific Bonsai Museum will also have live bonsai-making demos throughout the weekend, as well as docent-led tours of the museum’s bonsai collection. Swing through the various pop-up shops to grab bonsai gear of your own and chow down on food from Wateke Mexican Food and Village Perk Coffee. There will also be a game and art station, plus a poetry workshop hosted by Seattle poet Alexandria Manalo.

Note: This weekend is also when azaleawisteria, and other flowering bonsai are likely to be at peak bloom. Grab your mother or the mother figure in your life to traipse through the beautiful pink, purple, and white petals.
