When it comes to Pacific Northwest summers, few sensations are as nostalgic as the smell of warm blackberries growing wild along our walking trails and waterfronts.
To celebrate the PNW’s signature fruit, and to close out the summer season in style, head to the Bremerton Boardwalk for the annual Blackberry Festival this Labor Day weekend. The three-day festival draws thousands of visitors from across the region to enjoy live entertainment, artisan shopping, family activities and a seriously impressive variety of blackberry-inspired food and beverages (think cannoli, shave ice, soda, cider and even BBQ).
But more than just a family-friendly festival, the event showcases the best of Bremerton’s waterfront, bringing together small businesses, nonprofits, musicians, artists and community organizations in a celebration of local culture — all in one walkable waterfront destination. In fact, visitors can leave the car at home and explore on foot from the Bremerton Ferry Terminal, from the marina and waterfront hotels to restaurants, breweries and museums.
“We want visitors to leave with more than a great meal or a handmade treasure — we want them to discover Bremerton,” says Sunny Saunders, event producer of the Blackberry Festival. “The Blackberry Festival is an invitation to experience our waterfront, support local businesses and make lasting memories in one of Washington’s most welcoming communities.”
