đ Downtown Bremerton: Bremerton Boardwalk and 2nd St, Bremerton
The hot rays of summer bring Washington a bounty of fruit, including cherries, strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries, and the payoff only continues through August. During the tail end of this season, weâre looking forward to apples (of course), all manner of stone fruit, and yes, even blackberries. Thatâs right. Weâd argue that a core memory most Washingtonians have is painstakingly plucking deep violet jewels from tangled, thorny bushesâwhether on a less-beaten path in a park, on a mountain hike, or even over the fence in a backyard. And just across the water, the town of Bremerton is giving credit where credit is due.
Over Labor Day weekend, the Blackberry Festival arrives in downtown Bremerton, setting up shop on the boardwalk and all along 2nd Street. Those who take the ferry will be steps away from 120 vendors, live music and loads of brews and blackberry-themed drinks and bites. Last yearâs festival brought unexpected combos like blackberry BBQ, fries with blackberry dip, blackberry kettle corn and frybread, and weâre looking forward to seeing what theyâll whip up this year.
For more kid-oriented activities, 2nd Street (aka Berry Way) will have 50 crafters, kid’s entertainment stage, face painters, and more. Chalk Plaza between the Kitsap Conference Center and the Hampton Inn, it includes a full STEM activity play area by Kitsap CREATE.
Headlining this yearâs festival is classic soul and R&B band The Highsteppers, whoâll play at 6 pm on Saturday. Check the festivalâs Instagram for updates and the full list of performers.
The Blackberry Festival is an annual event that celebrates the delicious blackberry fruit and fundraises for the Bremerton Rotary.
