No one ever forgets their first book fair — the smell of freshly unboxed books, the burst of color from stacks piled high and the electric energy of taking a potential new favorite home to read again and again. 📚
But book fairs are more than an indelible childhood memory, they’re a rite of passage. Lively, interactive book events not only shepherd nascent readers through the diverse breadth and depth of children’s literature, they encourage self-perception as a reader and a lifelong love of literature. The Bigfoot Kids’ Book Festival is here to help kick-start that journey.
“Our mission is to foster a love of reading in children and teens by connecting them with exceptional authors and illustrators,” shares the festival advisory board, comprising local author/illustrators Kevan J. Atteberry and Ellie Peterson, and Brick & Mortar Books co-owner Dan Ullom. “This year, we have 50+ children’s authors with titles spanning board books, picture books, chapter books, middle grade and YA.”
Now in its third year, the Bigfoot Kids’ Book Festival began as a signing event outside of the Brick & Mortar Books store, with the aim of connecting children with their favorite (or next favorite) authors. With resounding community support and now in partnership with the King County Library System, among others, the festival has grown into an all-day event with book signings, meet-and-greets and activities throughout the day.
Books can be purchased ahead of time or onsite during the event.
