Loyal fans will be thrilled to learn that the talented and prolific wordsmith, Barbara Kingsolver, will soon grace a favorite Seattle stage to celebrate her newest novel, “Partita.” During this evening focused on “love, art and the long reach of the past,” the Pulitzer Prize-winning writer will delve into the fictitious character, Livia Cable, who stars in Kingsolver’s latest book.
In the captivating work that shifts between past and present, a former music conservatory student sees ghosts from her past revived after she receives a phone call from an old lover who wants to meet again. This request for reconnection causes things to rise to the surface that the character’s been keeping at bay for decades. As is the case with all of Kingsolver’s writing, vivid descriptions in the novel bring scenes to life in a way that often requires a second (or third) read through to fully capture the mastery and awe.
Kingsolver, who now lives with her husband on a farm in southern Appalachia, shares her wisdom and wit with audiences on Oct. 19th at downtown’s Benaroya Hall, home to the Seattle Symphony. (The event can be streamed from the comfort of home as well). Kingsolver’s known for bestselling works of fiction ranging from “Demon Copperhead” to “The Poisonwood Bible,” as well as books of poetry, essays, creative nonfiction and a children’s book (coauthored by daughter Lily Kingsolver) named “Coyote’s Wild Home.” Her work has been translated into more than thirty languages around the globe.
📺 Those who purchase a streaming ticket can watch the event live from anywhere, and they’ll receive a pre-event reminder email (with password and login instructions) at 8:30 a.m. on the day-of. The event streams on Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. (PT), but will be available for one week following the event too.
🥫 Attendees can support the Ballard Food Bank by bringing donations to the lobby on the night of the event. The most needed items include boxed mac and cheese, ramen, granola bars, jerky, oatmeal packets and cereal.
