💥 What is a comic? 🗡️
Asian Comics: Evolution of an Art Form dives into that question, showcasing the breadth of the medium across Asia over time. And if your first thought skipped to Japanese manga when thinking of Asian comics, it’s cool, we don’t blame you, but there is more to the art form than you might even imagine—from Astro Boy to Rajasthani kavaads.
Developed by lead curator Paul Gravett and a team at the Barbican Centre in London, this exhibit at MOPOP surveys comics from Japan, South Korea, India, Vietnam, to even North Korea and Cambodia. By organizing comics thematically, rather than country-by-country, visitors can see the parallel and diverging movements throughout the continent.
Go beyond comics in print media with in-exhibit interactive experiences and opportunities to explore the influence of comics in fashion, music, video games, and film.
