If youāve been following local news lately, youāre probably aware that the Kraken will be closing its doors. For the past 12 years, this U District watering hole has been a sort of unofficial clubhouse for the Seattle underground music scene, hosting hundreds of local and touring bands and serving cheap beer and tasty bar food to their faithful regulars. This likely wonāt be the end of the Kraken in spirit, though, as the bar has a GoFundMe in place to help find a new location. So instead of mourning, we can celebrate and revel in one final night at this particular address for the Seattle punk rock institution.
Itās fitting that the last evening of music at this iteration of the Kraken will beĀ 100% local. HeadlinersĀ CosgroveĀ play catchy, melodic skate punk reminiscent of Fat Wreck Chords staples like NOFX and Lagwagon whileĀ The Subjunctives,Ā Some Rules, andĀ Olā DorisĀ fully embrace the poppiness in their pop punk sound. Fun fact: The Subjunctives actually wrote a theme song for The Kraken, appropriately titled āAt the Kraken,ā where they name it āSeattleās number one pirate-themed punk rock dive bar.ā Make sure you get there in time to catchĀ The Disorderlies, as their sing-along friendly three-chord anthems will certainly set a positive vibe for this momentous final night at an iconic Northwest venue.
