Too Late — You Missed It!

September 10th • 8 pm  | October 8th • 9 pm

After 2.5 years of incomprehensible worldshift, tragedy, and isolation, the world wants simple, brainless fun. A new event sweeping the nation has capitalized on this generation’s need for frivolity. Meet the Shrek Rave.

“It’s dumb just come have fun,” says the poster featuring Shrek, the ogre protagonist of Dreamworks’ 2001 subversive fairytale, in rave glasses and LED gloves. The rave, which has gained massive popularity thanks to TikTok, stops at venues in cities across the country for a night of Shrek soundtrack club mixes, swamp water cocktails, and costumes. If you’ve ever wanted to see Lord Farquaad twerk with the three blind mice, this is the place for you.

But why channel this pent-up energy on Shrek? Partly, Shrek is a universally loved cultural touchstone for many Zillennials—it’s the only thing we remember about 2001 other than 9/11. And, since the mid-aughts, Shrek has been the subject of countless memes, a generational inside joke built on an appreciation for the boundary-pushing film that has, so far, stood the test of time.

In Seattle, Shrek Rave’s September 10th date will be at El Corazon and DJ’d by local music phenom Left at London. Unfortunately, since Seattle is filled with a bunch of nerds desperate for social connection, the night is already sold out. Luckily, Shrek Rave will be back in Seattle for Swamp-O-Ween on October 8th at Showbox. Tickets are already on sale
