As the NBA playoffs heat up, Seattle fans prepare for the season we really care about, the WNBA.
The Storm return on May 20th for their first home game, with a repeat match-up of the 2022 WNBA semi-finals against the Las Vegas Aces. And this year is monumental for the Storm as they embark on a new season without superstar Sue Bird. Her two-decade career with the Storm shaped the team into one of the most formidable teams in the league. While she will undoubtedly be missed, there are many new and returning players to fill her shoes and prove themselves.
If you’re worried about joining the crowds at Climate Pledge Arena in the Seattle Center, don’t be. The shiny new(ish) arena is easy to get to and has a range of prices for food and drink that won’t completely drain your wallet. And if you want to get something before or after the game, the surrounding Lower Queen Anne neighborhood has a lot going on. Since this is an early game, I recommend brunch and mimosas at Citizen, on a summer day (which it’s been feeling a lot like lately) their patio is downright cozy!
If you have never been to a Storm game, now’s your time to fix that. Join Seattle’s most endearing mascot, Doppler, for perhaps the most fun you can have in Mr. Bezos’ Climate Pledge Arena. Games are also kid-friendly with fun halftime events. (Doppler usually invites kids down for a big conga line.)
Besides generally good vibes, Storm ticket prices are reasonable, especially compared to other Seattle sports teams. Tickets start at $20. You can get them online and snag ’em early to save yourself the cheap seats. If you can’t make a game in person this season, FOX 13 has a deal to broadcast all Storm games live.
