A “reveal” lets the audience in on a secret. One that, like the slow stripping off of gloves, says we have arrived in the moment.
It’s hard to think of a more iconic reveal on recent TV than when Sasha Velour pulled her wig off as rose petals cascaded out on RuPaul’s Drag Race. And to Whitney Houston’s “So Emotional,” no less. It changed the game. Now, Velour brings us an evening of drag, storytelling, and art in celebration of her newly released book, The Big Reveal: An Illustrated Manifesto of Drag.
In her Manifesto, Velour braids drag history with her own story. The book features photos and her original artwork and explores how drag combines imagination and rebellion into self-expression. At its accompanying live show, expect surprises in the performances but also insight. The night includes an audience Q&A and book signing. So you have the chance to pick the mind of an entertainment genius. Plus, “the world’s showbusiest couple” Kitten N’ Lou will share the stage at this Seattle stop. The book will be for sale in the lobby, or order online to ensure you can snag a signature.
“Drag embodies the queer possibility that exists within each of us,” writes Velour. It’s a possibility that, when exposed, releases our inner artwork. Join the moment.
