Who doesn’t love a good portmanteau? Some of my favorites are podcast, Pokémon, and of course, Phinneywood—the beautiful name of the mesh of Seattle neighborhoods Phinney Ridge and Greenwood, because luckily for us, RidgeGreen doesn’t sound as good. So let’s all thank the blended neighborhood gods cause Saturday, May 20th from 9 am to 1 pm is the PhinneyWood garage sale, flea market, and recycling day! Dang, talk about killer combinations.

Garage sales take place all over these neighborhoods (Phinney Neighborhood Association has a mobile map of sale locations on their site), as well as in the Phinney Center parking lot, along with a flea market. If you’re looking to do some spring cleaning instead of searching for treasures (or maybe you wanna actually have space for said treasures), you can also visit the lot’s recycle and disposal trucks where you can drop off everything from household batteries and fluorescent tubes and bulbs, to small electronics, small appliances, clothing, and more. A full list of recyclable items is available online. There’ll also be a tool library where they’ll be selling all kinds of tools for cheap, in case you’re wanting to kickstart your DIY era. All proceeds benefit the Tool Library, a community program that offers a variety of tools to rent.

And if you want to double dip, Mount Baker is making that possible with a sale on the same day! Pictures from some of last year’s finds are available on the community website—basically, they got it all. Plant starts. Vintage vases (obvi, you can still call them vintage even if you bought them at Target). Electronics. Some of them even come with cords! A map will be available closer to the date. And if you’re coming into the area to shop, stop at Mica’s Sweet Coffee for fuel first!
