You may know comedian Dulcé Sloan as “Black Karen.” Or maybe as the telephone operator in “9-1-1 for White People Emergencies.” Those are two of her many sketches as a correspondent on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show. And she brings saucy perspectives on life to Seattle in her upcoming shows at Laughs Comedy Club. (I think Laughs is perfect for a date night, being one of the few comedy clubs in Seattle that gives you a chance to see touring up-and-comers in a small intimate venue.)

Voted as one of Variety magazine’s Top Ten Comedians to watch, Sloan keeps it real—like the character she voices (Honeybee) in the animated series The Great North. Last year Sloan toured the country with her No More Broke Dick act, a sentiment I fully support. Expect her standup routine to run the gambit. Dating as a Fat Black woman. Aging in her 30s. Microaggressions. Basically, all the crap life has to offer. Cause if it doesn’t kill you, crack a joke.

Pro tip: Like most comedy clubs, there is a two-item minimum. I suggest buying tickets online for one of the late shows. Go somewhere nearby for dinner. Maybe Iranian food at Persepolis Grill? Then grab cocktails and dessert at the show. I’m a fan of the Comedy Sucker Punch. The drink.
