RRR Fan CelebRRRation @ SIFF Cinema Uptown
This is peak action cinema 💥
Sunday, March 5th • 1 pm
Plenty of good cinephiles are already deep inside the fandom of RRR, director S.S. Rajamouli’s Telugu global sensation of a film, so forgive me if you’re all like, “Yes yes, we know!” It hit US theaters almost a year ago at this point, where it built up steady word-of-mouth before finally exploding into the zeitgeist when it hit streaming. But if you missed your chance to see it on the big screen or want to experience its splendor again, SIFF is bringing it back for a third special engagement. And I hope they play it LOUD.
One of 2022’s most epic films, it’s a fictionalized account of two of India’s real-life revolutionaries (megastars N.T. Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan), imagining what would happen if they crossed paths in the 1920s as they sought independence from British rule. This is wham-bam spectacle done right, combining the best in Indian blockbuster entertainment with stylistic callouts to John Woo, George Miller, and Tony Scott. It’s three blood-pumping hours of gravity-defying action sequences, deeply felt brotherly love, gasp-inducing double crosses, swooning romantic interludes, and several bring-down-the-house musical sequences. (The most famous one, “Naatu Naatu,” won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song and is also nominated for the Oscar.)
If you’re one of the millions around the globe who has already seen it, why not see it again with a rapt, engaged audience? Consider it a victory lap for this cross-cultural smash. And if this is your first time, then prepare to see what action cinema is supposed to look like.
If this whets your whistle and you want to see more, look no further than your local multiplex showtimes. Mainstream Indian films come out every week all over the area:
🎥 Downtown (Regal Meridian)
🎥 Up north (AMC Alderwood 16 and Regal Everett Stadium 16)
🎥 To the east (Cinemark’s Totem Lake and Lincoln Square, the Regal Bella Bottega)
🎥 South (the Century Federal Way)
