Jaw-dropping joy has been a little hard to come by lately, so when I heard about the Lowrider Block Party happening at The Nepantla Cultural Arts Gallery, I admit to doing a happy dance. The best thing about seeing a lowrider slide down the street is how the car becomes its own entity. The owner’s purpose is to help the machine on its journey to suspend disbelief.
The 2nd Annual Lowrider Block Party is free for the community and offers music, an art show, vendors, and very, very good food. It runs from 12 to 6 pm, giving you lots of time to roam the neighborhood. Park down at the end of the main drag and check out Seattle’s first and only wrestling-themed bar, Lariat. Anywhere I can get a drink next to a life-sized sticker of Andre, the Giant holds a particular place in my heart. I<3 Andre.
But seriously, White Center has so much to do. I could spend all day talking about my favs, like the chicken wings at Roxy’s Bar or Southgate’s Comedy Open Mic—but being in awe of how an Impala sounds? That sounds like the right way to spend a late-August day.
