The onset of late fall doldrums is a genuine concern once November hits the Pacific Northwest. One way to combat any malaise? Romanticize it. I have just the movie for you. Seattle’s Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI) and the Seattle Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP) are showing the 1982 classic Blade Runner: The Final Cut on Wednesday. Ridley Scott’s sci-fi noir film makes rain feel sexy. The darkness is so prevalent in the movie it’s a supporting character. A dripping wet, surly Harrison Ford investigating fugitive androids will make you feel right at home.
While the movie selection works perfectly for this pre-winter ambiance, MOHAI’s selection of Blade Runner isn’t just aesthetic. This movie night pairs perfectly with the traveling exhibit which came to MOHAI last month, The Mind and the Machine. Running through January 8, the show explores artificial intelligence and seeks to explain “what AI is, how it works, what it can do, and what it might become,” writes MOHAI. Check out the exhibit to learn about the “ultimate future of technology” and how AI can shape our world, especially our city. After The Mind and the Machine, Blade Runner might look a little bit like a documentary.
