Academy Awards Viewing Party @ Clock-Out Lounge
Free and all ages 🚸
Sunday, March 12th • Doors @ 3:30 pm | Show @ 5 pm
I watch the Academy Awards for A-list celebrity fashion, outrage, and general unhingedness. No matter why you watch, why not do it over cheap drinks and great pizza at Clock-Out Lounge in Beacon Hill? Doors open at 3:30 so you can catch the red carpet, with the ceremony beginning at 5. Seating is first come, first serve, so send a friend who loves fashion to stake out a table early.
The pop culture nerd trivia experts at Raised by TV are organizing the party. (You can also find them hosting events like Buffy and New Girl trivia around town.) Brandon Ryan, Bethany Valiant, and Shane Regan will provide emcee commentary, and I imagine their takes will surpass whatever host Jimmy Kimmel has in store.
If you have a competitive streak—or just love a game—enter the ballot contest to predict the evening’s winners and compete for extra awards in categories like “Best Dressed” watch party attendee. While dressing in evening wear is an excellent option to compete in that category, I have some alternative suggestions for you to consider: the metronome in Tar, a blue man (in reference to Avatar), or don a tasteful chunky knit sweater a la Banshees of Inisherin.
If you have yet to see the Oscar-nominated films, catch some at theaters around the city. Ark Lodge Cinemas is running Everything Everywhere All At Once, multiple theaters are still showing Avatar and Puss in Boots 2, and you can see the Oscar-nominated shorts at SIFF and Regal. (See our list here.) Some Oscar noms are streaming, but if you, like Nicole Kidman, love the experience of the theater, go watch them where, “somehow, heartbreak feels good in a place like this.”
